The objective is to increase cultural awareness and develop intercultural competence. We will analyze difficult communication situations that lead to mutual misunderstanding based on ethnocentric attitudes and prejudices. We will also talk about why Relationship Orientation is important when doing business in Austria - and how to do so –, and finally we'll look at the dynamics of Rule Orientation and flexibility across cultures.

Schreiner Karin PhD, MA is intercultural consultant and coach. In 2007 she founded “Intercultural Know – Training & Consulting” and conducts cross-cultural training sessions for companies in Austria and abroad. She also provides expatriate and re-entry training and coaching for assignees, spouses and accompanying children/adolescents. In addition, Karin is a university teacher for intercultural communication and intercultural management.
She graduated in Philosophy and Social Anthropology at the University of Vienna and lived for 16 years abroad (Czech Republic, India, Belgium, and Finland), during which time she worked at International schools in New Delhi, Brussels and Helsinki. Her recent sojourns were in India, China, and Japan.
Karin published several books on expatriation and moving with the family, cultural values and intercultural couples. Her most recent book, published in March 2017, is about cultural diversity at the workplace.
