Celebrating 2022

Thank you so much to those who attended our final event of 2022 at St Pancras Brasserie and Champagne Bar by Searcys on Thursday, 15 December. We were delighted to have seen you all and to raise a glass to another year gone by... and an important one for PWN London at that! We look forward to seeing you again in 2023!

Keep your eyes peeled for more!

We are currently in the midst of planning our autumn event called Pathway to the Boardroom. This will be a panel discussion among inspiring people who will share their experience on how women can advance their careers into C-Suite and directorship roles.

We are also planning a Christmas event so PWN London can end the year with a bang! It’s been a slow and steady path to rebirth so far and we would love to celebrate both ours and your successes together.

In the meantime, we are aiming to restart our mentoring programme in the autumn! PWN London’s mentoring programme has been incredibly successful in previous years, helping members achieve their mentoring objectives, both as mentors and mentees.

We will share details on each endeavour as soon as they are available, so watch this space!

Luncheon with the Rotary Club of London

PWN London’s own President, Derin Ajayi, was invited to speak at the Community & Vocational Committee of the Rotary Club of London’s luncheon at the Chesterfield Hotel on 11 July.

Few ever get the opportunity to experience Rotarian luncheon traditions and network with its members. We were honoured that the Rotary Club welcomed members of PWN London to share this experience.

Derin and Sheryl Miller, our Mentoring VP, presented the business case for workplace/societal gender balance and leveraged the insights from our partner organisation, Mercer, represented by Rhianna McCullough-Bray. This also showcased what good and effective collaboration looks like.

It was wonderful again seeing some of our past and present PWN members. We were delighted to have had a passionate and lively conversation with the Rotary Club members.

We thank the Rotary Club again for having us at the luncheon and look forward to continue the conversation with members of both the Rotary Club and our own at PWN London.

Spotlight on race & ethnicity

The impact of the pandemic amplified inequalities in a number of areas and 2020 was a stark wake-up call for employers, with increasing pressure from internal and external stakeholders to move the dial forward on their diversity, equity and inclusion agenda, not just in terms of gender, but also when it comes to racial inequality for their workforce.

Achieving racial equality is more than representation, it is about achieving equality of opportunity, experience and pay.

Mercer, PWN’s partner organisation, is conducting new research to understand how UK organisations are addressing racial equality. Their research will aim to focus on uncovering the root causes of workplace inequities, identifying which behaviours are helping to close these gaps, and which may be worsening the problems. If you have HR responsibilities in your organisation, we would love to get your views on this. Equally, if you have connections to your organisation’s HR team, forwarding this on to them could help you keep your organisation and leaders accountable.

The survey takes around 30 minutes to complete and all responses will be anonymised. As a thank you for completing the survey, Mercer will offer the following benefits:

  • Full findings report (to be released in Q4 2022)
  • Complimentary custom benchmark report (valued at £5,000) that compares your organisation’s practices against national and industry data
  • Virtual debrief meeting with Mercer consultants to review the results of the custom benchmark report

The deadline to complete the survey is Friday 2nd September 2022. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this critical research. We thank you in advance for your contribution.

PWN London Reborn: Up Close & Personal

On 9 July 2022, PWN London held our first in-person event in 2 years at Vagabond Victoria.

It was an informal networking event to gather a better understanding of the members we’re serving and how we can ensure they get the most out of their memberships. We learned how diverse our members are and that they did truly appreciate the opportunity to meet more people with the same desire to advance gender-balanced leadership.

Members had the opportunity to meet other people in similar industries at various stages in their careers and spend some time getting to know each other and learning how we can all help each other.

We also took this opportunity to introduce the new Board of PWN London. Stephanie, Jodie and Jasmine joined at the start of this year to support in the rebuilding of this network after a difficult couple of years during the height of the pandemic.

We truly enjoyed meeting the lovely members who attended the event and look forward to seeing you all soon again!
